The short version
This policy explains how the Silk Scan app for Android handles your information. Silk Scan is made by SystemLex. In one sentence: your documents stay on your phone.
-
Your documents stay on your phone.Silk Scan never uploads your scans, files, text or signatures. There is no account and no server, and the app's own code never connects to the internet.
-
We receive nothing from the app.No account, no ads, no analytics of our own and no tracking. We never see your documents.
-
Google's scanner runs on your phone. The scanner and text recognition are Google's ML Kit, working on your device. ML Kit may send Google limited diagnostic information about how these features perform, never your pages or their text.
-
You decide what leaves.A document leaves Silk Scan only when you share it, print it, save it or open it in another app.

1. Who we are
Silk Scan is developed and published by SystemLex (systemlex.com). In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean SystemLex, and "Silk Scan" means the Silk Scan app for Android. For any question about this policy or your privacy, write to us at contact@systemlex.com. We reply within 30 days.
2. Information Silk Scan uses on your phone
To do its job, Silk Scan works with the information below. All of it is processed and stored only on your phone, in Silk Scan's private storage, which other apps cannot read. We never receive any of it.
| Information | What it is and why Silk Scan uses it |
|---|---|
| Scanned pages | The page pictures you keep from the scanner, and the PDF, JPG, PNG, text and PowerPoint files you make from them. |
| Photos you pick | Only the photos you choose in Android's photo picker or share to Silk Scan, to turn them into documents. |
| Files you open | The PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CSV and text files you add with the file picker or open with Silk Scan from another app. Silk Scan keeps its own copy so you can read it again later. The original stays where it was. |
| Recognized text | The words Silk Scan reads on your pages when Recognize Text is on, used for search, copying text, searchable PDFs and Safe Share. |
| Signature, markup and covers | The signature you draw, your highlights, drawings and notes, and the covers and stamps you add in Safe Share. |
| Settings | Your choices, such as scanner mode, paper size, image quality, appearance and App Lock. |
Some documents hold sensitive details, such as ID, bank or card numbers. Silk Scan treats every document the same way: it stays on your phone and the app never sends it to us or to anyone else.
3. Permissions and phone features
- Biometric (USE_BIOMETRIC): App Lock uses it to ask Android to check your fingerprint, face or screen lock. Android does the check and tells Silk Scan only whether it succeeded. Silk Scan never sees or stores biometric data.
- Camera: Silk Scan has no camera permission. The scanner screen belongs to Google Play services, which uses its own camera access and hands Silk Scan only the pages you choose to keep.
- Photos and files: Silk Scan has no storage permission. Android's photo picker and file picker give it only the items you select.
- Network access (INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE): these come with Google's ML Kit, which uses them to send the diagnostic information described in section 4. Silk Scan's own code never connects to the internet, and its document reader is blocked from the network.
- Silk Scan never accesses your location, contacts, microphone, calendar, call history, messages or advertising ID.
4. Google Play services and ML Kit
The document scanner and text recognition in Silk Scan are features of Google's ML Kit. The scanner is delivered by Google Play services, which is part of Android on most phones, and text recognition is built into Silk Scan. Both run on your device.
To keep these features working, ML Kit may send Google limited diagnostic and usage information about them, such as the phone model and Android version, Silk Scan's package name and version, performance measures like processing time, settings like image format and size, error codes, and an identifier for the app installation or the device. Google states that ML Kit encrypts this information in transit and does not transfer it to third parties. It does not contain your pages, your images or the text in them, and we do not receive it. Google handles it under the Google Privacy Policy.
You can turn text recognition off at any time in Silk Scan's Settings, under Recognize Text.
5. When something leaves your phone
Information leaves Silk Scan only when you choose. We do not see any of these transfers.
- Sharing: when you share a document or file, it goes to the app you pick, such as email, messaging or cloud storage. That app's privacy policy applies from then on.
- Safe Share: the covered copy is made on your phone. Covered details are painted over in solid black, the copy has no hidden text layer, and pictures are saved without camera or location details. Your original document does not change.
- Password protected PDFs: the password you type is used on your phone to encrypt that PDF with AES 256, for that one share. Silk Scan never saves it.
- Printing: the document goes to the print service and printer you choose.
- Saving and Open in Another App: the file goes to the place or app you choose. Pictures you save to your photos go to the Pictures/Silk Scan folder, where your gallery and other apps with photo access can see them.
- Links: links inside documents, Rate Silk Scan, Share Silk Scan and this privacy policy open in your browser or in Google Play, which have their own privacy policies.
6. Backups and new phones
Silk Scan's documents, files and settings are never included in cloud backups. On Android 12 and later, if you move to a new phone with a cable or a direct phone to phone transfer, your library can come with you. On Android 8 to 11, nothing is transferred.
7. Buying Silk Scan
Silk Scan is a paid app sold through Google Play. Google processes your payment under its own privacy policy and never gives us your card or bank details. Google shares limited order information with us, for example the order number, date, price and country or region of purchase, which we use only for accounting, tax and refund requests.
8. If you contact us
If you write to us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you send. We use it only to reply and to help you. Please do not send documents with private details unless we ask for something specific to solve a problem.
9. What we never do
- No accounts and no sign in.
- No ads, no advertising identifiers and no tracking across apps or websites.
- No analytics or crash reporting tools of our own inside the app.
- We do not sell, rent or share your personal information, and we do not use your documents to train AI.
10. How your information is protected
- Silk Scan keeps everything in its private app storage, which Android separates from other apps.
- Silk Scan's own code never connects to the internet, and nothing in the app uploads your documents.
- App Lock can keep Silk Scan behind your fingerprint, face or screen lock.
- Files you share leave through Android's secure file sharing, which gives the receiving app only the file you shared.
- Word, Excel and PowerPoint files are read by Silk Scan's own reader on your phone, which is blocked from the network.
- The few support emails and order records we hold are kept in accounts protected by strong passwords and two step verification.
- No system is perfectly secure, so please protect your phone with a screen lock.
11. Keeping and deleting your information
- On your phone: your documents, files and settings stay until you delete them in Silk Scan. Deleting removes them from Silk Scan's storage right away. Uninstalling Silk Scan removes everything it stored.
- Support emails: deleted within 24 months after our conversation ends, or sooner if you ask, unless the law requires us to keep them longer.
- Order information: kept by Google, and by us only as long as tax and accounting laws require.
- Diagnostic information collected by ML Kit: kept by Google under its own policies.
To ask us to delete anything we hold about you, write to contact@systemlex.com. We will do it within 30 days.
12. Your rights
Depending on where you live, including the European Union, the United Kingdom, California and other places with privacy laws, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to object to or limit how we use it, and to complain to your data protection authority. Because the app sends us nothing, the only personal information we may hold is an email you sent us and limited order details from Google. To use any of these rights, write to contact@systemlex.com. We will never treat you differently for using them.
European Union and United Kingdom
We handle support emails based on our legitimate interest in answering you, and order details to perform our contract with you and to meet legal duties such as tax.
California
We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use sensitive personal information. In the last 12 months, the only categories we may have received are identifiers (an email address, if you wrote to us) and commercial information (order details from Google).
13. Children
Silk Scan is made for a general audience. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app sends us nothing, documents scanned by anyone, including children, stay on their device. If a child has written to us, a parent or guardian can ask us to delete that email.
14. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page and describe important changes in the app's release notes on Google Play.
